The following images showcase my work in the automotive industry as a Interior CAD Designer and Industrial Design Engineer. Scroll to see my design process, starting with sketches all the way to the finished product.

Process.

  • Ideate.

    Create various sketches to explore form and component placement while keeping design constraints top priority.

  • 3D Scan and Model.

    Utilize 3D scanner to gather mesh models of important parts and then create model of new product.

  • Verify.

    3D print model to test fitment in vehicle as well as verifying mechanics of hinges, latches, and integration of OEM components.

  • Order.

    Communicate with overseas manufactures to order new part in correctly graded resin for it’s particular use case.

  • Complete.

    Pass off part to the upholstery department to leather wrap and install into vehicle.

Process.

  • Prototype.

    Utilize rapid prototyping methods such as laser cutting cardboard to verify fitment on battery boxes, mounts, and cosmetic parts.

  • Build.

    Responsible for ordering metal including any needed hardware, bending, and finishing. Ensure others on the team are able to put together designs via infographics and wiring diagrams.

  • Verify.

    Final fitment verification before buttoning up battery box and mounting.

  • Embellish.

    Add companies branding and create a visually interesting finished product.

  • Complete.

    Add finishes if desired, this project was a test vehicle so customer did not need battery boxes and mounts painted or powder coated.
