Past Life

This piece features an organic form sculpture made out of wire and paper mache. Color photographs were cut and glued onto the sculpture. Two floating shelves made out of wood were constructed for the sculpture to sit on. Black and white photos were glued onto these shelves as well as the wall behind the piece. All of the photographs were taken by myself on either an iPhone or Canon 80D. The color photographs were taken before 2021 in various locations whereas the black and white photos are from my time in Texas from 2021-2022.

Bontecou Birdhouse

Based off of the Lee Bontecou work below, my birdhouse was created by constructing multiple hollow forms with wire and then using paper mache to cover them. These forms were then painted with black and beige acrylic paint. Then they were hung with more wire from sculpted tree branches. These branches utilize two French cleats made of wood, plastic water bottles were then glued to the wood. Butcher paper was then wrapped around these water bottles and the paper was painted to appear as tree bark.

Looking Back

The goal of this piece was to show my understanding in color and light through painting my hand to appear as though it has disappeared into the photo album. A combination of acrylic and gouache paints were used to accomplish this. I then positioned a camera on a tripod to shoot over my shoulder. The self-timer feature was utilized to get the shot.
